If you’re ready to say yes to being the best version of yourself, have fulfilling and healthy relationships, and have a better life, - then you are in the right place! Hey, we’re Tim and Ruth! We’re licensed marriage and family therapists and trauma experts with over 30 years of combined experience. We’ve seen time and time again how people have tried to will themselves to be happy, muscle through it, and have ended up even worse off than when they began. We’ve noticed that people have experienced deep pain, whether it’s others who have hurt them or situations and the world just beating them down, and often they have turned that into an internal dialogue where they are mean...like really cruel in how they talk to themselves. They have anxiety, feel depressed and overwhelmed, all the while their self talk is telling them ”I’m not good enough, I’m a failure, I’m worthless, I’m not loveable, I cannot trust anyone, I am powerless, I’m not in control.” How emotionally exhausting! We’ve realized that people want to get out of that place, they just don’t know how. They feel lost, alone, and without hope. Mental health & recurring toxic relationships can feel like an uphill battle, but you are not alone in this, that’s where we come in! We offer specific steps, practical tools, strategies, and insights that will help you to overcome these ongoing battles and help you win the war! There is hope, and there certainly is healing! Shame is a powerful motivator...to hide what you are doing. There are 3 concepts that have to due with altering behaviors. One is shame, which is social pressure that causes you to feel bad about your behavior. Shame is the least effective way to change behaviors because the person does not believe what they did was wrong but feel embarrassed about how society views them. Guilt is a better motivator for change than shame because guilt means you know you did wrong and have a negative emotional response to your own behavior. Guilt is better than shame because it is an internal belief. But what happens when the feelings ware off? People are likely to go back to the bad behaviors. Conviction is the understanding that a behavior is bad and you avoid doing it not because of emotions but because you just believe that behavior is wrong. Conviction is the best response to changing behaviors because it was not motivated by emotions and is therefore more likely to be a long lasting change because emotions often wear off, but the belief and choice through conviction does not.

Have you heard of the Pareto Principle? Maybe not, but it's likely that you've heard of the 80/20 rule. This is a key concept that can help us to be more productive, more successful, and can even impact how we approach our relationships.
The 80/20 rule is the principle that 80% of your outcomes come from 20% of your inputs and 20% of your outcomes are coming from 80% of your inputs. Why is this important? If you can figure out what 20% is responsible for the 80% of outcomes, you can focus in on those inputs and really maximize your efforts. This principle can be observed all around you!
Today we will discuss different examples of the Pareto Principle and how it can help you to reach the outcomes you've been desiring.

Today, January 3, 2023 is Divorce Day. What is Divorce Day? It's the first working Monday of January and it's a day when lawyers see an uptick in cases of those who are filing for divorce. Many people hang on throughout the holidays and don't want to break it to their kids and ruin the holidays, and the stressors of the get togethers and pretending everything is okay in front of family finally all comes to a breaking point.
We are not here to celebrate Divorce Day, instead, we are doing this episode to bring awareness to the surge of divorces filed and encourage you to get the help you need to avoid this day altogether. Marriage is hard, sometimes it feels like there's no coming back from the dark place you're in, but there is hope! Fight for your marriage, it is not always easy, but let us tell you....it is always worth it!
