If you’re ready to say yes to being the best version of yourself, have fulfilling and healthy relationships, and have a better life, - then you are in the right place! Hey, we’re Tim and Ruth! We’re licensed marriage and family therapists and trauma experts with over 30 years of combined experience. We’ve seen time and time again how people have tried to will themselves to be happy, muscle through it, and have ended up even worse off than when they began. We’ve noticed that people have experienced deep pain, whether it’s others who have hurt them or situations and the world just beating them down, and often they have turned that into an internal dialogue where they are mean...like really cruel in how they talk to themselves. They have anxiety, feel depressed and overwhelmed, all the while their self talk is telling them ”I’m not good enough, I’m a failure, I’m worthless, I’m not loveable, I cannot trust anyone, I am powerless, I’m not in control.” How emotionally exhausting! We’ve realized that people want to get out of that place, they just don’t know how. They feel lost, alone, and without hope. Mental health & recurring toxic relationships can feel like an uphill battle, but you are not alone in this, that’s where we come in! We offer specific steps, practical tools, strategies, and insights that will help you to overcome these ongoing battles and help you win the war! There is hope, and there certainly is healing! Can losing 1 hour of sleep really make a difference? In short, YES! This Sunday is the start of Day Light Savings Time where many of us will change our clocks & "Spring Forward."  Besides being exhausted the next day, why should we even care? Because there can be short term & long term effects while we not only lose this hour of sleep, but throughout the months of March - November we are getting less morning sunlight & throwing our circadian rhythms into a frenzy.
In just the week after Day Light Savings Time begins, research shows an associated rise in:
1. Cardiovascular disease, with a 24% higher risk of heart attacks
2. Injuries, including a 6% spike in fatal car accidents
3. Stroke rate, which increase by 8%
4. Mental health & cognitive issues, with an 11% spike in depressive episodes
5. Digestive and immune-related diseases, such as colitis, which increase by 3% in females over age 60.

We all want to have healthy relationships, but what does that even look like? Last episode we discussed Healthy vs. Addictive Love and shared comparisons #1-6, today we complete the list with comparisons #7 - 10!
If you haven't already listened to Part 1 - you can go back and listen to it here: Healthy vs. Addictive Love (Part 1)

Let's get started! 7. Healthy Love creates a deeper sense of ourselves the longer we're together. Addictive love creates a loss of self the longer you are together.
8. Healthy love gets easier as time goes on. Addictive love requires more effort as time goes on.
9. Healthy love is satisfied with the partner we have. Addictive love is always looking for more or someone better.
10. Healthy love teaches that we can only make ourselves happy. Addictive love expects the other person to make us happy and demands we try and make them happy.

We all want to have healthy relationships, but what does that even look like? Tune in to today's episode as we compare Healthy Love vs. Addictive Love. Today we will cover #1-6
1. Healthy love develops after we feel secure. Addictive love tries to create love and connection before we understand who the person is.
2. Healthy love comes from being healthy ourselves , we overflow with love. Addictive love is always trying to fill an inner void.
3. Healthy love begins with loving ourselves, being the partner we wish to have. Addictive love is avoiding looking at ourselves and always seeks to get love from that "special someone".
4. Healthy love grows slowly overtime, like a tree. It allows us to be vulnerable because we feel secure. Addictive love grows fast, as if by magic, and it's based on a shaky foundation; we don't feel secure and are afraid to be vulnerable because we fear rejection.
5. Healthy love thrives on time alone as well as time spent with our partner. Addictive love avoids being alone and needs to always be together or they begin to feel insecure.
6. Healthy love is gentle and considerate. Addictive love is tense and combative. Join us in the next episode as we complete the list with comparisons #7 - 10!

Today we continue with part 2 of "What is Love Anyway? Everyone is searching for it or trying to increase it. But how do you actually define love? We define it as loving actions we take toward our spouse no matter how we feel.  We don't define it as an emotion. Come along with us and learn more about what LOVE IS!

"Love is PATIENT and KIND;
Love DOES NOT ENVY or BOAST
It is NOT ARROGANT or RUDE.
It DOES NOT INSIST ON ITS OWN WAY
It is NOT IRRITABLE or RESENTFUL
It DOES NOT REJOICE at WRONGDOING,
but REJOICES with THE TRUTH.
LOVE BEARS ALL THINGS,
BELIEVES ALL THINGS,
HOPES ALL THINGS,
ENDURES ALL THINGS.
LOVE NEVER ENDS."

We have gotten so many questions about if EMDR is okay for Christians.  We've seen the hesitation and worry from those who know they need help but don't know what to do and are hesitant or worried about EMDR. In today's episode we address this concern and help you understand why, not only is it okay, but it may help you discover your true identity in Christ and heal from past hurts or trauma that are stopping you from truly believing and knowing your identity in Christ. We want you to experience fullness, joy and freedom, and we want you to represent Him well.
